How to Choose The Perfect Suit for an Interview

Three things decide how an interview suit reads: the color, how quiet the pattern is, and how well it fits. The first two take a minute. The third is the reason this collection is custom made rather than picked off a rail.

Start With the Color

Dark navy first. Charcoal second. Mid-gray after that, and black only where the industry is genuinely formal. Those four are the whole range on this page, and you can see the full argument in how suit colors rank. The Astor Dark Navy Twill Suit is the plainest version of the safest answer; the rest of the range is in navy blue suits and charcoal suits.

Keep the Pattern Quiet

A solid twill or a sharkskin weave reads as one color across a desk. A fine pinstripe is the next step out and still conservative. Everything here is one of those three, so there is no wrong pick in the grid — only a more or less formal one.

Then the Part That Actually Takes Work

You do not choose a size. You build a Fit Profile — about sixty seconds with the Digital Tailor, or fifteen minutes with a tape measure if you prefer — and our team reviews it against thousands of past orders before the cloth is cut. If the finished suit needs adjusting, take it to a local tailor and we reimburse you, $65 on a two-piece suit. If it cannot be altered, the remake is free. On a first order, you can also send it back. The terms are on our Fit Promise. Weights here run from 155 to 320 GSM, most between 220 and 280, and every product page lists its own.

Should You Wear a Suit to an Interview?

For most interviews, yes — finance, law, consulting, medicine, government and client-facing sales still expect one. Technology, startups and creative studios are the exception. The rule that survives every industry is to dress one level above what the team wears on a normal day. Our interview suit guide by industry goes through them one at a time.

What Color Suit Should You Wear to an Interview?

Navy first, charcoal second, mid-gray third. Navy is the best answer if you only own one suit for interviews. Black is the most formal color a suit comes in. Brown, tan, olive and anything bright pull attention to the cloth. The longer argument is in how suit colors rank.

Is a Navy Blue Suit Good for a Job Interview?

Yes, and it is where this collection is weighted. Pick dark navy in a solid or sharkskin weave rather than a mid or bright blue, which sits a step less formal. Start with the Astor Dark Navy Twill Suit, or browse all navy blue suits.

Can You Wear a Black Suit to an Interview?

You can, but it is the riskiest of the conservative colors because it is the most formal. It works in corporate law, investment banking and luxury retail, or when it is simply the suit you already own. Keep the shirt white and the cloth matte. Compare charcoal versus black.

Navy or Charcoal: Which Should You Buy First?

Buy navy first — it is the more versatile of the two outside the interview room. Buy charcoal first only if you already own navy. Both are here: navy blue suits and charcoal suits.

What Shirt, Tie and Shoes Go With an Interview Suit?

A white shirt is never wrong, and light blue is the other safe choice in every industry. Choose a solid or small-pattern tie, darker than the shirt. Wear black cap-toe oxfords with navy or charcoal, and socks that still cover the ankle when you sit down. Shirts are in business shirts, ties in essential ties, shoes in dress shoes.

How Should an Interview Suit Fit?

Four checks decide it. The shoulder seam ends where your shoulder ends. The buttoned jacket closes without pulling into an X. About half an inch of shirt cuff shows below the sleeve. The pants touch the shoe with little or no break. You do not buy any of this by size — you build a Fit Profile, our team reviews it, and alterations are covered by our Fit Promise. More in how a suit should fit.

How Long Does a Custom Interview Suit Take?

Standard delivery is three weeks, priority is two, and rush arrives in seven to eight days. Garments ship two to three days after a rush order. We recommend ordering about a month before the interview so there is time for alterations if you want them. Full timings are on shipping and delivery.
