How to Choose a Summer Suit

A summer suit is a weight decision before it is a color decision. GSM is grams per square meter, the weight of the cloth, and it is the one number that tells you how a suit will behave in the heat. On this page it runs from 150 to 320.

Start With the Weight

Pure linen is the lightest here at 150 GSM, and the linen blends sit at 155. The bamboo, wool, linen and silk blend from Cavani is 260 GSM and holds a cleaner line. Wool sharkskin and twill fall between 215 and 235. Every product page prints its own weight, so you never have to guess. The pure linen cuts are in 100% linen suits.

Then the Color

Sand, taupe and light blue are the daytime answers, and they are the ones that read calm in photographs. Sage and teal give the same lightness with more color. Charcoal and black hold heat and read formal, so they belong to evenings rather than a garden at two in the afternoon. The Eldridge Sand Linen Suit is the plainest version of the safest answer.

Then the Part That Actually Takes Work

You do not choose a size. You build a Fit Profile, our team reviews it before the cloth is cut, and a summer suit shows every fit mistake because the cloth is thin. The shoulder seam ends where your shoulder ends, the buttoned jacket closes without pulling into an X, and a quarter to half an inch of shirt cuff shows. If it needs adjusting, take it to a local tailor and we reimburse you, $65 on a two-piece suit. If it cannot be altered, the remake is free. The terms are on our Fit Promise.

What Fabric Is Best for a Summer Suit?

Linen for the most airflow: ours is 150 grams per square meter (GSM), the weight of the cloth. The bamboo and wool blend at 260 GSM gives a cleaner line with less creasing. Lightweight wool sits between the two and works in an air-conditioned office. The pure linen cuts are in linen suits.

Is Linen Good for Summer?

Yes, and it is the lightest cloth we cut: 150 grams per square meter against 260 for the bamboo blend. Linen creases as you move, which is part of how it looks. A linen blend or the bamboo blend holds its line longer. The 150 GSM cloths sit in 100% linen suits.

Can You Wear a Wool Suit in Summer?

Yes, if the weight is right. The wool suits here run 215 to 235 grams per square meter, lighter than a winter flannel, and they keep their shape through a long day. The merino at 280 and the mohair at 320 are better in spring and fall.

What Color Suit Should You Wear to a Summer Wedding?

For a daytime or outdoor wedding, sand, taupe, light blue or sage. For an evening reception, deeper blue, teal or gray. Check the invitation first: black tie means a tuxedo whatever the season. The longer argument is in suit colors for a wedding.

How Do You Keep a Linen Suit From Looking Creased?

Hang the jacket as soon as you take it off and let it rest between wears. Steam rather than press. Some creasing stays, and that is what linen does. A linen blend or the bamboo blend is the answer if you need a crisper line all day.

What Should You Wear to a Beach Wedding?

Linen in a light color, and the lighter the better on sand: pure linen in sand, taupe or light blue. Skip the heavy lining and the black shoes. Ask the couple whether the ceremony is on sand before you pick the trousers. Start in linen suits for weddings.

How Should a Summer Suit Fit?

The same four checks as any suit, and they matter more here because light cloth hides nothing. The shoulder seam ends where your shoulder ends. The buttoned jacket closes without pulling into an X. A quarter to half an inch of shirt cuff shows. The pants touch the shoe with little or no break. More in how a suit should fit.

How Much Does a Custom Summer Suit Cost, and How Long Does It Take?

Summer suits here start at $535 and run to $1,050. Standard delivery is three weeks, priority is two, and rush arrives in seven to eight days. We recommend ordering about a month before the event so there is time for alterations. Full timings are on shipping and delivery.
